RUG MAINTENANCE
GENERAL TIPS FOR ALL RUGS:
Underlay
Always lay a non-slip underlay under your carpet. This way, the carpet will not slide, will stay nice and straight and will keep its shape better.
Prevent damage
Walk on the rug with rubber soles as little as possible to preserve the fibres. Avoid picks in the fabric by, for example, quadrupeds; choose a rug where this is less likely to happen or one where it is less noticeable.
Beware of agents that give off colour and dirt
Shoes under which there is dirt or dyes in soles can migrate into textiles. So make sure you enter the carpet with clean footwear and that they do not shed.
Always follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions, if available
STANDARD MAINTENANCE:
- Clean weekly or more often with the hoover with a collapsed brush or even better: with a separate nozzle.
- Turn the rug 90° or 180° each quarter, depending on its shape, for a longer lifespan. This will ensure that a ‘walkway’ is created on a different section each time.
- When the rug can be walked on two sides, turn the rug quarterly for longer life.
- For woollen rugs, spray the rug lightly with water every quarter to keep the wool in the right condition.
- Dry cleaning the rug is not recommended.
SMOKE:
If a spill occurs, always clean up immediately!
- For stains, dab on the stain with an absorbent, slightly damp cloth or paper. If you may wet clean the rug, then sprinkle some sparkling water over the stain and then dab the last remnants from the rug. Note: do not sprinkle water over sisal yarn.
- When cleaning the rug, do not use everyday household detergents.
- For cleaning rugs and persistent stains, we recommend carpet and rug products from James.
Keep all care products out of reach of children.
Recommendations are carefully compiled in consultation with suppliers, but no guarantee that every problem can be solved.
Some problems you cannot or do not want to handle yourself. A service department specialised in the material in question can take a lot of work off your hands.
Or if you can make do with a slightly more ‘lively’ rug.
