50 YEARS ON A BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY:

HOW IT BEGINED
Hans and Willy, Ruud's parents, were antique lovers. They embarked on a wonderful journey that began with the purchase of a van, travelling to England to buy antiques, and registering with the Chamber of Commerce on 14 February 1975.

SHOP
The van and garage box soon became too small. Looking for a shop, they ended up at Baarleseweg 35, the old tannery in Chaam that belonged to Heintje Meeuwisen at the time, which they were allowed to rent.

UNIQUE ITEMS
Back then, people were already looking for special items. That could also be a nice special vintage car.

GROW
The sand floors and tanning pits were still in the property at the time. A few years later, they were allowed to buy the tannery and a piece of land was bought and built on each time over the years.

ON THE ROAD
During the week, a lot of driving was done in the lorry to neatly deliver the goods, which had often been sold at the weekend, to people's homes.

Nineties
At 19, Ruud joined his parents' business, inspired by the versatility of his father's antiques profession and the business built up with his mother. Ever since he was 12, he knew he wanted to become an antiques dealer like his father.

Noughties
’t Looiershuis is a family business. Over time, Ruud’s parents gave him the freedom to steer the shop in the direction he thought best. He officially took over the business around 2005. Together with his partner Mireille and a number of enthusiastic staff members, he continues to run the business.

Tens
Hans and Willy remain active in the business until at least the 20s. Ruud is always accompanied by Hans on purchasing trips, and this time Willy will also join them.

3rd GENERATION
On a buying trip with my middle daughter Sam, who also works in the business now, with a good nose for home accessories and styling.

50th Jubilee
Ruud and Mireille toasting 50 years of Looiershuis, on to the next years of the journey that entrepreneurship brings.

TEAM
Very proud of the team of colleagues with whom they have ensured where ’t Looiershuis stands today, a cause to be proud of.
